Mountain Wind Huachuma

You are invited to participate in an expansive journey to open your heart, heal yourself, and discover a new way of being.

Who we are:

The mountain wind penetrates and surrounds us. Huachuma is a gentle but powerful guide towards a heart opening experience that will change our perspective!

We provide a safe, clean, and holistic approach to experiencing a new way of being. While also giving a unique adventure experience that will last a lifetime.

Built around the Raymi:

Raymi are a type of festival held by the Ancient Quechua speaking peoples of the Andes. These festivals celebrate seasons and are based on the movements of the Sun, Agriculture, and Astronomy.

We build our retreat structure around these Raymi because it provides a traditional context for partaking in these powerful ceremonies. We often have a ceremony on the day of the associated Solstice or Equinox, which gives us unique opportunity to connect with Huachuma and Nature.

For more information about the Raymi, please refer the the sourced links at the bottom of the page. It is important to understand that Quechua wasn’t a written language and thus spellings may vary. In the same way, the Andes are full of Quechua speaking people and their celebration of the Raymi varies greatly in every small mountain town across the entirety of the Andes; from Ecuador to Argentina.

Pawkar Raymi: Garden Celebration

Held in the fall (March Equinox) this Raymi celebrates the garden. The Ancient Quechua speaking tribes celebrate the garden and all of the abundance it has provided.  Our Pawkar Raymi Ceremony follows this tradition through transformation by celebrating our own inner garden, and giving thanks to all that nature has provided for us. While also creating space for something new to grow.

This Pawkar Raymi Retreat will focus on bringing you into connection with Nature and the cycles of seasons we all live and work with. The retreat is 8 days and 8 nights from March 14th to March 22nd 2026. You’re invited to join us in this expansive experience!

Cápac Raymi: The Great Organizer

The great organizer. This Raymi is one of examination and preparation. Cápac Raymi is observed on the longest day of the year, the Summer (December) Solstice. Sometimes called “Andean Christmas,” or Kapac, the Raymi marks the beginning of the early harvest season and the mountains are full of fresh vegetables and produce. The Organizer comes into our work by helping us to examine our past year, while preparing us to enter another cycle of growth and transformation.

This Killa Raymi Retreat will focus on bringing you into connection with our feminine sides and prepare ourselves for replanting our inner gardens. The retreat is 9 days and 8 nights from March 14th to March 22nd 2026. You’re invited to join us in this expansive experience!

FAQ

These are the Frequently Asked Questions we often receive when guests are researching Mountain Wind Huachuma.

What is Huachuma?

Huachuma is also known as San Pedro, or also commonly spelled Washuma. The latin name is Echinopsis pachanoiit is a succulent or cactus that grows natively in the Andes mountains of South America. Often this cactus is sold as an ornamental plant all over the world and grows in moist, arid climates.

Huachuma is a heart opening, healing, and expansive experience. The themes often include addressing past traumas, connection nature, and finding your path forward to inner growth. There are many more benefits and the teachings of this master plant can be varied greatly from person to person.

We typically begin a ceremony at 10am, explaining for new guests what to expect during the ceremony. We set our personal intentions, and then drink the medicine. Perhaps we will draw an oracle card, or introduce ourselves, and after 30-45 minutes we move into the garden to our own private areas that we choose. Guests can sit together or separate, guests can hike the very close Temple of the Moon ruins, or simply be at peace anywhere they choose.

After a few hours, we ask if anyone would like a second glass of medicine. Typically the first part of the ceremony is spent in silent reflection, after the second glass there may be music, laughing, talking, or sharing. We often build and deepen our connections with each other during ceremony, as well as with our inner selves.

The Huachuma experience is one that flows freely, and every ceremony is different. You may purge, but many do not. When we drink, the Grandfather medicine guides us and nothing happens by chance. In truth we can not say exactly what a ceremony is like because the Grandfather teaches us each in their own way.

Huachuma is like a gentle Grandfather. He is open and accepting of nearly everyone. However, there are a few medications and medical conditions that can preclude someone from partaking in the medicine.

Medical Conditions:

  • Pregnancy: Not recommending during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  • Cardiovascular Diseases: Like extremely erratic heartbeat, high blood pressure, or a recent history of heart attacks.
  • Mental Health Disorders: Such as extreme bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, or severe psychosis. Huachuma may trigger episodes.
  • Epilepsy/Seizures: Huachuma may lower the seizure threshold in a small amount of people.

Medications that are Counter-Indicative:

  • Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs): Combining mescaline with medications that increase serotonin levels, especially Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), is highly dangerous.
  • Stimulants: ADHD medications like Adderall or other stimulants should be avoided due to the risk of increased heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Blood Pressure Medication: Because San Pedro can cause increases in blood pressure, it may interact with antihypertensive medications.
  • Decongestants: Over-the-counter cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine should be avoided.
  • Central Nervous System Depressants: Drugs that suppress the nervous system, such as benzodiazepines or barbiturates, may have conflicting or unsafe interactions, particularly regarding sedation and respiratory effects.

When considering partaking of the medicine, please contact us with any questions. The above information is for reference only, and if you feel drinking Huachuma may be a risk we can inform you of that risk. We will ask the questions necessary to assess your ability to drink the medicine safely, please be honest with us and we will find a solution.

To begin first you must have a willing spirit, everything that follows are logistical challenges that in most cases can be overcome. A list of these logistical challenges follows:

  • A valid and current Passport and ability to travel internationally.
  • A short intake call, and submission of our intake form/questionaire.
  • Making a deposit to reserve your space. If there is an emergency situation or enough time in advance this deposit can be moved to another retreat.
  • A plane ticket to Cusco, Peru.
